HomeworkScienceBiology → Cells

There are two types of cells.

The different parts of the cells:

  • Vacuole - A large space filled with a watery fluid containing sugar and salts.
  • Cell Membrane - Thin skin controlling flow of substances into and out of the cell.
  • Nucleus - Controls the production of protein. Contains DNA and so determines the cell's characteristics.
  • Cell Wall - This is thick and tough giving protection to the cell. It contains cellulose.
  • Chloroplasts - These contain chlorophyll which is needed for plants to makefood by photosynthesis.
  • Cytoplasm - This is the chemical factory of the cell, new substances are made, energy is released and stored. Small droplets of liquid found here are known as vacuoles.

The different cells in our body:

  • Nerve Cells - Carry messages to all parts of the body.
  • Secretory Cells - Produce enzymes.
  • Red Blood Cells - Carry oxygen to all parts of the body.
  • White Blood Cells - Protect the body against bacteria.
  • Bone Cells - Support the body.
  • Muscle Cells - Help the body move.
  • Skin Cells - Help to protect the body.
